Healthy Toddler Snack and Meal Ideas

Dealing with the terrible twos

Feeding your child can be fun and easy until they learn to say no and cause a riot. Picky toddlers are only one part of dealing with the terrible twos, but dealing with a picky eater toddler does not have to be hard. Try out these food and meal ideas, and soon dealing with the terrible twos will not be so terrible!

Banana, almond butter, and banana sandwich

This easy recipe can be whipped up as an easy snack or it can be a healthy lunch when accompanied by some fruit and veggies. Feel free to swap out the almond butter for another nut butter, or add some berries on top to have your child get their fiber and protein without even realizing it!

Apple, cheddar, and peanut butter crackers

Lightly spread peanut butter on whole grain crackers. Add a slice of cheddar cheese and a wedge of apple, and your child won’t be able to resit this crunchy, salty snack!

Make the sandwich into fun characters

You can do this with any kind of sandwich to make it more enjoyable at mealtime! You can cut it into different animal shapes like fish or a cat’s head, or just do fun geometric shapes.

Carrot chips with hummus

Your toddler probably only enjoys potato chips because of their crunch. Try and mimic that in a more healthy way by cutting carrots into wedges and dipping them into hummus!

Frozen grapes and bananas

Instead of ice cream, give them frozen grapes and smashed frozen bananas! The fruit’s texture while frozen is icy and interesting, and chances are your child won’t know the difference. Plus, it is cheaper than traditional ice cream!

A toddler smoothie

This is easy to make and is sure to fill them up! Just toss any non-fat yogurt you have into a blender along with some of your child’s favorite fruits, like blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas. Add some milk and ice to keep it chilled, and you are good to go!

When dealing with a picky eater toddler, feel free to get creative! Just look in your fridge, and come up with an idea you think your toddler picky eater will like. Healthy eating habits start now, so stock up on these healthy foods!
