How to Organize Your Loft

Loft philadelphia

When you’re living in a loft, you’ve got to be able to arrange your space accordingly, otherwise your apartment will feel either too big, or too cramped. The problem is that lofts have certain features, like support columns and exposed piping that can make organization and decoration a little challenging.

If you’re living in a loft and need some help structuring your apartment, here are a few tips to help.

Define the Spaces.

The first thing you’ve got to do when living in a loft is to figure out where you want your sleeping area, your living area, and your work area. These are the three main places to prioritize. It’d be a good idea to adjoin your living space with your kitchen area, and to put your sleeping area near the bathroom. This leaves the rest of the apartment for your work area, or whatever other areas you might want, like a gaming area for example.

Another thing to take into consideration is your lighting. If one part of your apartment is darker, put your sleeping space there. If you have a really great view on one side, perhaps put your living area over there.

Divide the Spaces.

Now that you know where your main areas are, it’s time to divide them. The best separate your space is with your furniture. Sofas and bookcases are extremely helpful in this sense. You can also use screens or room dividers as makeshift walls if you’d like more privacy when living in a loft.

Create Storage Spaces.

Now that you’ve decided how to arrange your apartment, it’s time to think about how you’re going to store things. Living in a loft poses storage challenges, since four walls and a few windows does not supply enough space to store things. However, you can buy furniture pieces that double as storage units, like ottomans, chests, and even some tables.

Lofts afford their denizens the city living lifestyle desired by so many, and if you can afford the nicer Philadelphia apartment buildings, they can even create a luxury living space. When you’re living in a loft, you’ve got to organize it to make sure that it really feels like home, and not just a strange apartment. If you have any questions about how to organize your space when you’re living in a loft, feel free to ask in the comments. For more about this, go here: www.postrents.com

Protect Your Baby or Toddler From Impending Tragedy!

Babyproofing

If you are a parent who was actually present during infant and toddler years, you will remember those times when you were holding your breath while they toddled about from one thing to the next. No matter what you did your baby would try to get into everything even if you were hovering over them ever second.
As you watched your toddler navigating your home furnishings, trying to sneak away toward the stairs, or reaching for something hot in the kitchen, you became very aware of the importance of babyproofing your home. Even if you went to great pains to create a thorough babyproofing checklist, you probably still felt like you wanted to encase your child with a protective force field 24 hours per day.

While that technology is yet to be made public, there are countless babyproofing products available at your baby store these days. These the best babyproofing products for babyproofing drawers, corner guards for furniture, table corner bumpers, and innumerable other baby safety products will not only keep every active and curious toddler safe, but offer parents priceless peace of mind.

If there is any standard baby advice for new parents, it would probably be to do everything possible when it comes to babyproofing your home. Since no to tots are alike when it comes to eating, sleeping, and neediness, every child needs to be kept safe and protective. This is because toddlers still need to learn about the fun things, as well as the dangers, that inhabit the world around them.

Hence, children who are just beginning to crawl will want to explore every place they can go, and touch everything they can possible reach. Of course, it is up to parents to watch their young children every second, and make sure that nothing they do can cause harm to themselves, or anyone else for that matter.

Since even parents with the most watchful eyes can’t watch every single second of their toddlers’ lives, babyproofing your home is essential. After all, it takes just a split second for a fast crawling toddler to find his or her way to a set of stairs, or shut his or her hand in a door hinge.

Top Three Ways To Support Our Troops Without Extravagant Spending

Donate

Schools and parents are encouraging young children to take a few minutes to write letters, birthday cards, Valentine’s, and Christmas cards to active military members and vets. “Thank you for fighting for our country. I love the color camo. I am nine. Why did you want to go to the military? Thank you for dieing [sic] for our country,” one letter begins. “I love American flags. Do you ever stop working? I love that every hour of every day you fight for our lives. I respect my veterans. How long do you have to sleep? You are very heroic and brave.”

Children’s letters to veterans are popular for several reasons — not least among them being that they are thoughtful, inexpensive, and relatively convenient. Contrary to popular belief, taking an active role in charities — especially ones supporting our troops — can be cheap, free, and/or take next to no time at all. Here are some ideas for giving back without giving up too much time or money:

Take Up Creative Couponing

Sometimes one of the most difficult things to do is ask for help. Many military husbands and wives take pride in being more or less self-sufficient. For that reason, they are often unwilling to ask for a hand. Asking for help and having someone explicitly offer to chip in, however, can be very different. One military mom suggests drawing up creative coupons good for “one night of babysitting,” “two hours mowing the lawn,” or “three hours help with errands.” Gift the coupons on special occasions, such as birthdays and holidays.

Get Your Local Community Involved

Avoid feeling the brunt of charitable efforts by asking your friends, family, and neighbors to get involved. Plenty of events, including pot lucks, charitable pancake breakfasts or barbecues, and events gathering food and clothing donations, are much more manageable with a crew.

Show Your Support Without Leaving Home

Americans short on time can also donate clothes from the comforts of home. Many organizations that collect donations for military families will come right to your home or pick up donations at a communal — and often more convenient — drop-off spot.

Supporting out troops and contributing to donations for military families does not have to be costly. Gift homemade coupons, organize a neighborhood effort, or donate items quickly by going through charities that will pick up clothing and food items at home.

Three Reasons Why Clothing Donations Matter

Clothes donations

Did you know that about 700 homeless people die of hypothermia every year? This fact alone is motivation enough for many people to donate clothes like jackets and sweatshirts, as it certainly exemplifies how important charitable donations are, but you may not know that there are many other benefits of clothing donations as well.

Here are a few reasons why clothing donations matter more than you might realize.

Helps the Environment.

If people get gently used clothing instead of new clothes, then manufacturers will make fewer new clothes, which not only saves the resources necessary to create textiles, but also lessens the environmental impact that manufacturers have. Believe it or not, the United States creates 25 billion pounds of textiles on average every year. Yet, only 3.8 billion pounds is recycled every year, which means that 21 billion pounds of textiles wind up in landfills every single year.

Aids Victims of Disaster.

In addition to helping those who can’t afford to clothe themselves, clothing donations also help victims of natural disasters such as hurricanes, flooding, and tropical storms. In the last 12 years, natural disasters have cost $1.3 trillion in damages, 1.1 million lives, and have affected 2.7 billion people. Though clothing donations might seem like small contributions, they can mean a world of difference to someone whose life was torn asunder by a natural disaster.

Makes Your Life Better.

In addition to the natural, euphoric joy of clothing donations, they can also help make your own life tangibly better. Purging your home of unwanted and unnecessary clothes leads to a more stress-free environment. Clutter is both a fire hazard and a drain on emotional health. Clearing out closets, basements, and drawers is extremely cathartic, and leads to a better sense of well-being.

These are just a few of the benefits of clothing donations. They help the environment, disaster victims, and those making the donations. Basically, clothing donations help everyone out. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

You Can Make a Difference for Military Veterans!

Donations for non profit organizations

Do you know that the typical American discards nearly 70 lbs. of clothing, towels, drapery, bedding, and various other textiles annually? Considering the fact that there are tens of thousands of needy Americans, couple with problems of pollution, people would be far better donating their used clothing to less fortunate people, wounded veterans charities, or helping military families.

While the best charities to donate to are always helping families in need via purple heart clothing donation, wounded veterans charities, and other local clothing donations, there is always the need for more. Therefore, wounded veterans charities are always looking for donations and many are even willing to pick up clothing donations if they are available.

In addition to helping struggling and disabled United States veterans, donating your used clothing and textiles can save the earth from more unnecessary pollution. Even if you have torn or tattered clothing that is no longer useful, it can still be saved from the landfill through recycling. In fact, anywhere from 90% to 99% (there seems to be yet another factual discrepancy there) of used clothing and textiles can be recycled, which means less pollution and fewer wasted natural resources.

Unfortunately, only around 15% of discarded clothing is ever recovered for reuse or recycling purposes. With that being said, why don’t we join hands, raise our voices in song, and come together as a harmonious, patriotic collective and help our financially struggling veterans!

It is simply a travesty that the U.S. government does more for lazy, shiftless civilians who are perfectly capable of flipping burgers, washing dishes, mowing lawns, shoveling driveways, and even writing SEO than for veterans who put their lives on the limbs for their country. At least we, the American People, can make a difference by donating our used clothing to these fine folks.

The Health Benefits of a Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep comfort bed reviews

Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling like you spent the previous day working for an appliance moving company, but the day actually consisted of watching the NCAA tournament, pounding beers, and eating pizza? If this sounds familiar to you, the chances are you wake up feeling achy more often than not.

Although there are many different reasons why people experience chronic body aches, those whose back and neck pain are worse in the morning than any other time of day could probably use a new mattress. In fact, adjustable mattresses and ergonomic beds are designed to address specifically sleep-related aches and pains. Additionally, the bed comfort provided by a high-quality adjustable bed mattresses will not only help people to sleep better at night, but they also promote good health.

The key to a good mattress is in the way it supports your body. While every mattress will support your body, the best sleep mattresses are designed to support your body in a way that distributes your weight evenly. This means that less weight and strain will be placed on your back and neck. Furthermore, sleepers will spend less time changing positions to get comfortable, and experience a deeper, more satisfying sleep.

While greater bed comfort won’t be the cure for every insomniac, research shows that up to 40% of insomnia sufferers can get better quality rest on a new mattress. Of course, the new mattress should be an adjustable mattresses or ergonomic mattress. In addition to sleeping better at night, nearly one-third of sufferers of chronic neck and back pain will feel relief by sleeping on a more supportive mattress.

Three Reasons Why Living in a City Is Better Than the Suburbs

Chinatown apartments philadelphia

None of the old Philadelphia apartment buildings I used to live in could by any means be considered luxury living, but it was an experience I wouldn’t trade the world for. The years I spent city living in a loft were some of the best years of my life, and I only let myself move away because of work.

Someday, I plan on moving back, because quite frankly, city living beats suburb living. Here’s a few reasons why.

Conquering the Snow.

If you’ve ever lived in the Northeastern part of the country, you know how obnoxious (and quite hazardous) winters can get. One of the perks of city living is that the streets and sidewalks are plowed, the roads are salted, and traffic is relatively less affected. After this past winter, I’ll gladly move back to any place where I don’t have to shovel my way to my vehicle.

Public Transportation.

I own a car now because I need to, but back in my city living days, I never had to drive myself anywhere. I could get a taxi, catch a bus, or use the subway. It’s not quite as direct, but it’s a whole lot less frustrating and a lot easier. Plus, it’s cheaper and better for the environment. I’d gladly take a 20 minute subway ride over a 10 minute drive in traffic.

The Culture.

One of the biggest reasons I love city living over suburban living is the sheer fact that cities just have bigger better things going on in them–more plays, bigger musical acts, diverse cultural events. Some people like to check out art galleries or the like on vacation, but I would visit on a weekly basis. There’s always something new to see and do.

At least for me, these are the best reasons to live in a city. If you have any questions, or have any of your own reasons you’d like to share, feel free to do so in the comments!
